Human and Social Development
Our students will study personal and human social skills and as they relate to students' identity in the world - both as individuals and as members of their community. We are learning that personal and human social skills encompass the abilities students needs to thrive as individuals, to understand and care about themselves and others, and to find and achieve their purposes in the world.

Social Emotional Learning & Belonging
Students are building strong personal and social skills through shared experiences, collaboration, and connection. They are learning to work with others, understand different perspectives, and develop a sense of belonging within the school community. Through activities in classrooms, teams, and school events, students strengthen their ability to care for themselves and others. This work supports our school goal of improving student well-being and aligns with the district focus on developing the personal and social skills students need to thrive as individuals and as members of a community.

Community and Belonging
Students build a strong sense of community and belonging through shared experiences across the school. Through sports, performances, cultural celebrations, and caring classroom environments, students connect with one another and feel valued for who they are. These experiences help students develop empathy, confidence, and positive relationships. This work supports our school goal of improving student well-being and aligns with the district focus on developing the personal and social skills students need to thrive as individuals and as members of a community.
Care and Connection
Students are building positive relationships through everyday interactions on the school grounds. They are learning how to include others, make friends, and show care and respect. These moments strengthen empathy, confidence, and a sense of belonging. This work supports our school goal of improving student well-being and aligns with the district focus on developing the personal and social skills students need to connect, contribute, and thrive in a community.
The video below is an example of specific action we are taking to address these areas of growth. This is our Grade 8 Madame Perron's “Community Block.” The Community block is held weekly with the goal to to build teamwork, community, and personal growth. Within the block students reflect on their actions and try small challenges outside their comfort zone. They support one another and strengthen the culture of care in every class.
