Career Development
Our students will succeed in a much different future from the one we envisioned 10 or 15 years ago. It is our responsibility to prepare all children for success in whatever life path they choose, connecting learning opportunities with future career possibilities. We know that real-life experiences - like community involvement, gaining business knowledge, and hands-on-learning - build better students and life-long citizens.
Goals
- Improve core competencies so students can achieve career/life goals.
- Improve graduation rates.
Practical Skills and Design
Students are learning how to sew, design, and create using fabric and simple tools. They are developing practical life skills while building patience, focus, and independence. Through this work, students are strengthening their personal and thinking core competencies. This aligns with our district goal to connect learning to real-life skills and prepare students for future pathways where creativity and problem-solving matter.
Design, Collaboration, and Problem Solving
Students are applying their learning by designing and building structures as a team. They are planning, testing ideas, and solving problems together. This work builds communication and collaboration skills while strengthening critical thinking. These are key core competencies identified in our school plan. This learning also reflects the district goal of providing hands-on experiences that connect learning to real-world design and career pathways.
Outdoor Inquiry and Real-World Learning
Students are learning in a real-world environment as they explore local plants and ecosystems. They are observing, recording, and discussing their findings. This strengthens inquiry, critical thinking, and connection to place. This work supports our school goal of building core competencies through meaningful learning experiences. It also aligns with the district focus on real-life learning that helps students apply knowledge beyond the classroom.
Inquiry, Innovation, and Real-World Application
Students engaged in inquiry-based learning through the Science Fair, where they explored questions, tested ideas, and presented their findings. They applied critical thinking, problem-solving, and communication skills to share their learning with others. This work supports our school goal of strengthening core competencies and aligns with the district focus on connecting learning to real-world applications and future pathways.
Trades, Tools, and Applied Design
Students are designing and building a device using real tools and materials. They are applying measurement, planning, and problem-solving skills in a hands-on setting. This work builds confidence and introduces students to skilled trades and applied design. It directly supports our school goal of strengthening core competencies and aligns with the district goal of exposing students to real-world skills and career opportunities.
Communication and Applied Knowledge
Students are demonstrating their understanding of energy by creating detailed visual presentations. They are organizing their ideas, explaining their thinking, and presenting their learning clearly. This work strengthens communication and thinking core competencies. It supports our school goal of helping students take ownership of their learning and aligns with the district goal of preparing students to communicate and apply knowledge in future pathways.
