Health and Safety Measures Update

February 25, 2022

Feb 25th, 2022

Dear Chief Dan George Middle School families,

Last week, our Superintendent shared an updated that highlighted Dr. Bonnie Henry’s announced planned changes to public health orders over the coming days and weeks, focusing on resuming more types of activities and events.

We understand that there are varying levels of comfort as we begin to move towards the next stage in our provincial Restart Plan, but ultimately this is exciting news for our community and serves as a signal of better days ahead.

It is with this email that we wanted to provide you with updates related to our school operations.

Guidelines for K-12 Setting

While our school begins to return to the operational parameters from this past fall, several health a safety measures will remain in place until further notice. These include:

  • Conducting Daily Health Checks;
  • Mask wearing in accordance with the Provincial Health Officer Order for all K-12 students and staff;
  • Regular hand hygiene;
  • Maintaining physical distancing where possible; and
  • Staying home when you are sick.

At our school we will also implement:

  • Continued use of assigned entry and exit doors for all students with all entries being teacher guided
  • Spectators for Extra Curricular events will be asked to adhere to the following guidelines:
    • All spectators must always wear a non-medical mask while indoors
    • All spectators must complete a Daily Health Check before entering the building.  Links to this health check will be posted at entrance doors to the school and the gym and can be completed with a phone.
    • Spectators are asked to stay home if they exhibit COVID symptoms.
    • Seating will be limited to 50% of gym capacity. Please follow all signage in the gym when finding a seat. Once gyms have reached this capacity limit, no further spectators will be allowed to enter.
    • Spectators will be asked to respect others’ personal space while inside. Please follow physical distancing guidelines.
    • To help follow these capacity limits, we encourage our athletes to have only one family member watch a sports event in person.
  • Our Front Door will now be the only external door unlocked. Visitors will need to sign it at the office window once they enter the building

This information has also been added to our school website for families.

Rapid Antigen Tests

The Ministry of Education has also shipped rapid antigen tests to our school for distribution to students. Each student will receive one box, which includes five individual tests. Guidance for parents on how to use the tests is available. On Thursday, February 24th, your child was given a box of 5 Covid rapid antigen tests that they brought home. If your child was absent, they can see their homeroom teacher and sign for their box of rapid tests. These tests are to be used at your family’s discretion whenever you see fit.

Next Steps

The health and safety of students, staff and our entire CDG school community remains a priority and it is imperative that we all make every effort to keep each other safe. As we continue to support one another to remain healthy, we remind you to conduct a daily health of your child for symptoms of communicable diseases such as congestion and/or a sore throat. A specific site that can be helpful to use with a detailed list of symptoms to be aware of is the BC K – 12 Health Check website . As we have done all year, please only send your child to school each day when they are free of symptoms. If your child is displaying any symptoms, please keep them home.

Please do not hesitate to contact us with any questions or concerns.

Thank you for your ongoing understanding and cooperation.

Sincerely,

Mr. Beck
